I'm off to Bristol tomorrow, leaving at 6a.m to get through and out the other side of the city before rush hour.................my little puppy (all 17kg of him!!!!) is going back into hospital at 8.45 for follow-up xrays and scans after his op 4 weeks ago.....................more sedatives for him, and probably a LARGE tot of something for me while I wait for him to come round.I hope I will know afterwards whether he is allowed to walk on his own .................or will I still have to carry him outside for a wee etc (AND prop him up while he performs!!!) Hi Lylie,
Wishing you and Barney a safe journey tomorrow and all the luck in the world for Barney with his tests. Fingers crossed that they let him start walking now.
Lots of love, Doreen xx

Hi lylie,
Best of luck for Barney tomorrow. I hope that he will be able to walk on his own as I cannot imagine how you have been managing this past few weeks. What an early hour that you have to leave in the morning. Will be waiting to hear how it all went.

Hi .........................thank you for replies ,.....................................good to know you care!!! HE IS A LITTLE STAR!!!!!! NO xrays, no sedatives...... He has been examined- and had his leg fiddled with -by three vets who were very impressed by the way he has healed up and how well (????!!) he can use the leg already....this, they assure me, is down to really good post op nursing!! He just lay about on his back waving his paws about for attention and MORE cuddles, even the nurses made excuses to pop in and see him again! ANYWAY, he is now allowed to walk on it, on the lead, for 5 minutes daily for a week; then we do two lead walks of 5 minutes each; week 3 is one ten minute walk and one five minute walk; week 4 two ten minute walks etc, and build up gradually till he can do half an hour (which I hasten to tell you, he will probably be doing without me!!). He may not climb stairs or steps (back door has TWO!!) or climb onto laps (as if he would !!!), and MH is NOT allowed to play with him for 6 months in case the broken bone twists, in which case then we start all over again. He will probably always have a limp, and WILL definitely have arthritis- by the time he is a year old -in his wrist and elbow. I can see a lifetime of cuddly blankets, warm fires and LOTS of painkillers, which shouldn't be too taxing for him or me, we can sympathise with each other. Wow, well done Barney! Bless him Lylie, you must be very proud of him, and of yourself for looking after him so well! Still not an easy time ahead of you though , with the strict timetable of walks and having to keep him and MH apart. Hope it all goes smoothly for you both. Love, Doreen xx

I have an OT assessment soon, so maybe I can persuade her that I need a slope/ramp thing at the back door (which WOULD be helpful!!)...then Baby B can share it??? MH is VERY grumpy tonight and didn't eat his dinner.......sulking 'cos B and I went out and he didn't, his turn tomorrow, have a long walk planned which may well kill me AND old Max, but MH and Millie will LOVE it Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

That would be a big help to Barney if you could get a ramp! Sounds as if you are both going to have similar needs from the OT! Tell MH he must eat and keep his strength up because we have another hospital rescue plan pending, for Barbara this time! Love, Doreen xx

Good news Lylie! All down to the careful care he has been getting. Does sound like alot of precautions for the next few weeks or so. how will you stop MH from playing with Barney?

So glad to hear that things are going well for Barney. It will make your life easier not carrying him around so much. I do feel sorry for MH not being able to play with him.
